Welcome to Dawsonville
The town was incorporated in 1859 and became a city in 1952. Named after Senator William Crosby Dawson was featured in Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy discussing the history of moonshine and how bootlegging turned into Nascar . Amicalola Falls located in Dawsonville is one of the seven natural wonders of Georgia. Dawsonville celebrates every October " The Mountain Moonshine Festival" as this city is known in the auto racing circles for involvement in the sport that consequently developed from moonshine activity. Nascar driver Bill Elliott who won the Winston Cup Championship in 1988, now retired, is to be inducted into the Nascar Hall of Fame, and the torch has been handed to son Chase Elliott who currently races.
The Dawson County School District consists of four Elementary, two Middle, and a High school as follows:
Blacks Mill Elementary, Kilough Elementary, Robinson Elementary and Riverview Elementary.
Riverview Middle , and Dawson County Middle.
Dawson County High School.
Dawson County High School, won the Honor of being a part of the Blue Ribbon Schools Program.
